Teenagers are in a tough phase of life, they are trying to find who they are in this world, all while trying to navigate school, work, and social life. All of this can make it difficult to parent, as mom tries to find the balance between making sure they are safe and protected, and making sure they feel like they have the freedom to be who they are, and do what they want. This is the first time mom is going to experience her child being out of her care for a long period of time, and it can take some adjusting.
