Most kids aren’t getting enough physical activity. Are yours?

Philly Voice – Katie Gagnon

For toddlers, children and adolescents, physical activity improves strength and endurance, builds healthy bones and lean muscles, develops motor skills and coordination, and promotes emotional health by reducing feelings of depression and anxiety. Exercise builds self-esteem, increases stability, control skills and thinking skills. Children who are routinely active are less likely to become overweight or obese, thereby decreasing the risk for developing Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. https://www.phillyvoice.com/child-health-physical-activity-tips-winter-summer-katies-baby/

Childhood body composition may influence future lung health

Medical X-Press – Staff Writer

How well people breathe as adults may depend on the amount of fat mass and lean muscle mass they have as children, according to a new study led by scientists from the Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal), a center supported by the “la Caixa” Foundation. This research has been conducted as part of the Ageing Lungs in European Cohorts (ALEC) project, coordinated by Imperial College London. https://medicalxpress.com/news/2019-01-childhood-body-composition-future-lung.html
