The Asean Post – Jason Thomas
One in three children are Internet users according to the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF), and a fifth of children aged between three and four have their own tablet PCs according to the World Economic Forum (WEF). With this in mind, the need to protect the online safety of children is paramount. https://theaseanpost.com/article/children-and-social-media

The Irish Times – John Sharry
Family stress and poor sleeping patterns are associated with many problems: obesity, physical illness, poor performance in school and increased behavioural problems. While the exact reasons for this are not clear, it makes sense that a child or parent who is chronically tired or stressed is less likely to have the energy to exercise and more likely to engage in unhealthy coping strategies; such as binging on sugary foods, mindlessly surfing the internet, or, in the case of parents, even drinking to excess. https://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/health-family/parenting/healthy-families-getting-enough-sleep-and-rest-1.3770803

Many mothers have to navigate a sea of advice from family and experts when it comes to feeding their babies. Nonetheless, nutrition educators typically focus only on the mother, even in Latino communities where grandmothers and other older female relatives often play major roles in caring for children. https://medicalxpress.com/news/2019-02-peace-mom-grandma-kids.html

NBC News – Jannell Ross
Since 2017, Wiggins has worked as the Houston Independent School District’s officer of nutrition services. However, she calls herself “the head lunch lady.” When Houston, the nation’s seventh largest school district, tapped Wiggins to lead its food program, it was also in the midst of challenges. Almost34 percent of children in Houston were classified overweight or obese in 2016. The district’s 209,772 students come from a community riddled with so-called “food deserts.” (The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention define food deserts as areas lacking access to affordable, fresh and healthy foods.) And, almost 75 percent of the district’s students come from disadvantaged families. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/nbcblk/betti-wiggins-changing-way-american-children-eat-school-n964756
