McDonalds has announced it is adding cucumber sticks to its Happy Meal menu, so children can choose a healthier option than French fries. The summer swap from carrot to cucumber comes after new research reveals cucumber is one of the easiest ways to up children’s fruit and veg intake, with almost half of parents siting the crunchy salad stuff as a go-to when it comes to getting their kids to eat five-a-day.

Toddlers who are picky about their food are not deficient in essential nutrients compared to their peers when they are teenagers. However, the few children who were persistent picky eaters, those who were less able to change and adapt their eating habits, showed pronounced differences in food intake at the age of 13, including a higher intake of sugar, according to new research published in Nutrition.

We hear it all the time – kids today aren’t getting enough exercise. Now, a recent study said the age in which physical activity drops off for most kids is younger than experts originally thought. The study looked at data on 600 children between the ages of 6-11.
