At What Age Can A Child Be Diagnosed With ADHD?

Moms – Rachel Turing

Oh, ADHD. The four letter acronym, which causes new parents and teachers immediate anxiety. If you’ve ever walked into a kindergarten classroom at the end of the day on a Friday, you will know the stress of trying to get a hyperactive little one to do anything you need them to do. It seems like anyone can take a look at their squirmy and chatty child and diagnose them with ADHD because, really, they seem way less focused and organized than the other little kids. While some believe that doctors are passing out ADHD medicine like candy, others are completely unaware of the facts and reality surrounding the disorder. Does your child really have it, could it be something else, or are they just going through a rambunctious phase as they figure out the world?

Kids aren’t getting enough exercise, even in sporty Seattle

The Conversation – Julie McCleery

People who live in and around Seattle are among the nation’s most active. The region is an outdoor recreation haven for both locals and visitors who enjoy hiking, biking and kayaking. I conduct research about coaching and youth sports. To see if the roughly 450,000 kids who live in the county which encompasses Seattle and its surrounding suburbs get enough exercise through play, sports and outdoor recreation, I teamed up with King County Parks and the Aspen Institute, a think tank.

All age groups worldwide ‘at high risk’ of drop in children’s physical activity

Medical X-Press – Staff Writer

Emphasis on particular groups hinders efforts to address the problem of declining physical activity in children, according to a study led at the University of Strathclyde. A review of more than 50 published studies, covering a total of 22,000 children, found that children of all ages around the world are at risk from a decline in physical activity. It fell steadily from the age of four or five, in both boys and girls and in every part of the world covered by the study.
