Medical X-Press – Staff Writer

Eighty-six percent of parents agree that teens spend too much time gaming, but many may be mistaken about the extent of their own child’s video game habits, a new national poll suggests. Parents also report very different gaming patterns for teen boys than girls, according to the C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital National Poll on Children’s Health. Twice as many parents say their teen boy plays video games every day compared to parents of teen girls. Teen boys are also more likely to spend three or more hours gaming.

As the countdown to a new school year begins, many parents will soon find themselves facing the often-arduous task of filling the school lunchbox which, despite the best of intentions, often ends up containing more junk food than nutrition. The Savvy Sleeper recently surveyed over 1,000 parents with children between the ages of 5 and 18 about their family’s bedtime and sleep habits. What they found was that even young children struggle to meet the minimum recommended hours of sleep for their age. One US study says that from ages 2-11, anywhere between 13% and 22% of kids are picky eaters. Preschoolers, in particular, are reported as being the most picky, with another study stating that up to 50% of 3-5 year olds are considered picky by their parents.
