Why obesity is more common than you think

Medical X-Press – John J. Reilly

The World Health Organization has described obesity as a global epidemic and one of today’s “most blatantly visible yet neglected public health problems.” In the last few years reports on the rise of this life-threatening condition among children and adults across the globe have been alarming. A total of 107.7 million children and 603.7 million adults were considered to be obese in 2015. But now our research shows that obesity is even more common than these reports suggest, and that in many countries most people are now living with obesity.

Getting children to eat their greens? Both parents need to set an example

Medical X-Press – Staff Writer

A positive example set by both the mother and the father promotes the consumption of vegetables, fruit and berries among 3–5-year-old children, according to a new study from the University of Eastern Finland. The study explored the association of the home food environment and parental influence with the consumption of vegetables among kindergarten-aged children. The findings were published in Food Quality and Preference. Children eat inadequate amounts of vegetables, fruit and berries across Europe and elsewhere, too. As the health and nutrition benefits of these foods are well-known, increasing their consumption among children is a challenge many countries are struggling with. Dietary habits also track from childhood to adulthood, and the period of early childhood is critical for adapting to a diet rich in greens.

Can OCD Be Diagnosed In Toddlers? It’s A Complicated Process

Romper – Grace Gallagher

It’s not uncommon for little ones to ask the same questions over and over (are we there yet?) or collect hoards of random objects they find at the park, so it’s difficult to know what separates typical toddler behavior from something more serious. If your kid seems to be displaying certain behaviors like excessive worrying or repeated actions, you may be wondering if a toddler can be diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). The answer, as it turns out, is rather complex.
