A new, comprehensive model of autism care and treatment that prioritizes personalized, stepped care approaches is urgently needed, according to a new international report published in The Lancet. The authors of The Lancet Commission on the future of care and clinical research on autism call for global coordination between governments, health care providers, education, financial institutions, and social sectors to reform research, care, and treatment for autism that will include individualized treatments throughout a person’s life with active participation from patients and their families.

Raising boys to be emotionally mature young men takes a lot of effort. Not necessarily so because of the boys but because of the societal pressures put on boys to conform to behave in a way that is not conducive to showing feelings. As such, boys are often met with comments that they need to “toughen up,” “brush it off,” or to “stop crying because it is not that big of a deal.” And all that these comments do is set boys up to be emotionally unavailable as they age because they do not have the words to express themselves properly. As such, parents should know some not-so-pushy ways to get boys to express their emotions.
