Health Line – Sara Lindberg

If you frequently battle about screen time with your kids (don’t we all!) but want to learn how to enforce healthy boundaries, you’re certainly not alone.

Most parents are concerned about their child’s screen time. But parents and caregivers seem to have an extra challenge in helping kids with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) manage screen time.

“Electronic usage is part of daily life and is not inherently problematic, and as with many other issues, it is an issue of moderation,” says Mary Jane Weiss, PhD, BCBA-D, LABA, of Endicott College.

Pandemic stress, screen time add to child obesity, expert says

FOX 2 Now – Megan TalleyAli Lanyon, and Jocelina Joiner

With many schools teaching remotely during the pandemic, parents may have noticed that their kids have gained weight.

In fact, a study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that youth between 2 and 19 gained weight nearly twice as fast during that time compared to pre-pandemic numbers.

“Some of the main reasons for the change in these numbers and the alarming results have to do with the increase in screen time that children were experiencing during the pandemic, a change in their sleep habits, an explosion in their stress level, lack of exercise and disruption of routines,” said Dr. Susan Albers, a psychologist for Cleveland Clinic.

National Children’s Dental Health Month

Ohio Department of Health – Staff Writer

During February, we celebrate National Children’s Dental Health Month. The theme this year is “Sealants Make Sense.” A dental sealant is a thin, plastic coating that is painted on the biting surface of a back tooth to prevent tooth decay. Dental sealants prevent the most common type of tooth decay seen in school-aged children today. Your child can get dental sealants at the dentist’s or maybe at school.

Harvard Health – Claire McCarthy, MD

But in January of 2022 the AAP updated that guidance because the risk of myocarditis with COVID-19 in children has grown lower, in the range of 0.5% to 3%.
