When people think about body positivity issues, the first thing that comes to mind is how it affects girls. However, body positivity issues affect boys as well, starting in their tween years. Just like tween girls, tween boys have things that trigger them to dislike what the reflection shows them from a young age. The difference is that for girls, it is about being thin enough and wearing the right clothes. For boys, it is worrying about being too small and finding ways to bulk up or have a more defined jawline, according to Vision. And unless parents can find a way to open the lines of communication about body image and positivity, it will not be discussed. Introverted tweens are the rare breed of kids who listen more than they speak. Often labeled as “shy,” introverts let others participate in class, may not enjoy team sports, have few friends, and may spend a good deal of time in their rooms. While this may sound like this breed of tweens is experiencing depression, they are happy with their lives this way. It is when they are put on the spot or are pushed into activities that make them uncomfortable that introverted tweens become unhappy. As such, parents need to be aware of how to tread so that they can boost their introverted tween’s self-esteem rather than break it down.
