The rates of childhood obesity are rising, and a global pandemic has not helped. Being overweight can come with a lot of health issues, and it is important that they are addressed and studies can help society see just what the problem is, and hopefully work towards a solution. Many don’t see diabetes as a problem for “youth,” but that may be changing and parents are paying attention.

Can kids be allergic to sugar? They sure can! However, those who have true sugar allergies are rare. It is more likely that kids are suffering from an intolerance to sugar instead. But regardless of whether an allergy or intolerance exists, for those whose bodies are unable to process the sweet substance in its chemical or natural forms, it can be anything from an annoyance all the way to life-threatening. As such, kids who have issues digesting or have an autoimmune response to sugar should speak with their healthcare professionals to determine whether a food allergy or intolerance exists.
