A new survey has found that 70% of parents feel like their children are becoming “internet zombies.” There is no denying that children are using technology, and they are using it at a higher rate than parents did when they were younger. While there are benefits to technology, like education and connection, there can be some pretty big downfalls. Parents are constantly expressing how worried they are about their children spending so much time online, but there doesn’t seem to be a clear answer. Parents are under increased pressure, and this means that they may let screen time rules go out the window sometimes.

Rise of the five-year-old ‘TikTots’

An annual study into media habits, from Ofcom, highlighted the mini social-media mavens, with a third of parents of five- to seven-year-olds revealing their child had a social-media profile.

Among the eight- to 11-year-olds who used social media, the most popular platform was TikTok, with one in every three having an account.

TikTok is a “strictly a 13+ platform”.

The COVID-19 pandemic had an impact on almost everyone, but children were impacted at a much higher rate. Their mental health suffered as they were forced to live through times that were full of constant changes and heightened anxiety. This was sure to have an impact on their health, but since sleep is an important component of a child’s health, that needed to be assessed as well.
