Obesity May Be Affecting Heart Health in Kids as Young as 6

As early as age 6, children who carry extra weight could be headed down a path toward future diabetes or heart disease, a new study suggests.

The study, of nearly 1,000 Danish children, found that kids who were overweight often had elevations in blood sugar and insulin by the time they were school-age. They also had higher triglycerides (a type of blood fat) than their peers, but lower blood levels of HDL (“good”) cholesterol.

A new study has found that kindness could be a “significant brain booster” among families. As moms, and parents, we are always trying to instill morals and values in our children. We want them to be generous, patient, and have a healthy sense of empathy. We also want them to be kind, and to show the people around them as much kindness as they can muster. Even those they don’t know should be treated with kindness. While this is seen as something that we should all “just do,” there may be even more importance for this simple concept.

When’s An Appropriate Age For Kids To Start Exercising?

The current recommendation for kids getting outdoors and being physically active is 60 minutes per day, according to the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Be it running around, swimming, playing games, or the like, whatever keeps kids active is good for both their bodies and their minds. And while this is the recommendation, there are some kids who want to take that time and put in a workout with their parents. Something that many parents would like to encourage but not many know what the appropriate age is for kids to start exercising.
