When someone is obese or overweight, excess fat gets stored in and around vital organs such as the liver. According to an article published in the International Journal of Molecular Sciences, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is now the most prevalent form of chronic disease, affecting 10 to 20% of the general paediatric population worldwide. It is also predicted that it will become the biggest cause of liver failure and subsequent liver transplants in children in the next decade. (more)
