When someone mentions the chickenpox, most of us think of young kids with an itchy rash. We grew up accepting that it was a pretty common illness, and before a vaccine was available, nearly 4 million Americans were infected each year. When we were young, it wasn’tĀ unusual for a friend to be home sick with the chickenpox, and your parents might have even let you two hang out so that you’d catch it and get it over with. Once exposed, most people develop immunity and don’t catch it again.
