In a new study, a movement curriculum that let preschoolers choose what exercise they do increased physical activity and motor skills competence. Many children—mainly girls—simply aren’t taught or don’t learn how to throw, run, jump, or dribble a ball, researchers say. To change this, Leah Robinson, associate professor at the School of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan, and her colleagues developed a movement curriculum that let preschoolers choose among activities.
