Most parents have dealt with some form of picking eating or food aversion at least once in their time as parents. But if you’ve never had to deal with a child who can’t eat certain foods because of food allergies, then you can consider yourself pretty lucky. Statistics show that approximately 1 out of every 13 kids has some sort of food allergy, and 40% of those kids have experienced severe and even life-threatening reactions. The scariest part is that the majority of children aren’t tested for food allergies as part of their normal wellness checkups (the testing can be difficult to handle). So for many parents, their first experience with their child’s food allergy is at the time of the first reaction. That’s why it’s so important to be able to recognize the symptoms of food allergies in kids, so if your child has a reaction, you can be prepared in the moment.
